“Why do you want to work here?”
This question is almost guaranteed to come up at some stage in the interview process. Are you prepared to answer it? What is the answer that will “wow” the Hiring Manager? What will separate you from competing candidates?
Chis McGoff, an expert on Organizational Culture, states that there are a few common responses to the question.
- That the work for the role is challenging and that the company invests in training and staff development
- The company has a great culture
- The company provides opportunity for advancement
While these are great reasons to give to your prospective employer the response that will really impress the hiring team will include showing that you have done your research. Mention that you know, understand and align yourself with their mission and vision. Include that you have researched the company on many different channels, for example your professional network, and social media.
Showing that you are prepared and did your research indicates that you are not trying to get something for yourself and that you can provide value to the company. It will also reflect important characteristics about yourself, as well as shared beliefs and values with your future employer.
