General Manager
Location: Rocky Mount, North Carolina

Scientific Search's client, a family-owned Instrumentation company, has an immediate need for a General Manager. The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated leader that has experience in multi-channel business management in instrumentation. The ideal candidate would also have experience in the agriculture and hydroponics industry.

Job Responsibilities include:

  • Lead strategic growth with new customers, increased market share in targeted sectors, new products, initiatives services, and potential subscription services.
  • Lead and be accountable for the implementation of marketing, new business development, partnering and product / service development.
  • Recruit and develop a high-performance team to position the brand and enhance brand value aligned with and to support the strategic growth pillars.
  • Identify new retail, B2B and end user customers in all key markets that align with strategic objectives and convert these into growth outcomes.
  • Work closely and collaboratively with the leadership team, research and development, manufacturing, and fulfillment to ensure quality, values and business processes are upheld with commercial objectives / performance indicators met.
  • Identify, develop, and manage partnerships with third parties that align with strategic direction and values, and enable commercial objectives to be met.
  • Develop and continuously improve performance across all the various business delivery areas.
  • Contribute and support the company’s strategic direction by supporting and collaborating with the Executive Team.
  • Help identify and shape the product offering for target market sectors. Assess existing portfolio in relation to end user needs, identify whitespace and develop solutions that leverage capabilities to create new customer value and improve competitive position and sales.
  • Develop rolling 12-month marketing plans covering key events / trade shows, promotions, and product launches.
  • Complete regular analysis of competitive products in the market, benchmarking the portfolio and identifying threats or opportunities and developing sales play books and marketing strategies.
  • Engage and manage an ecommerce agency to develop and optimize ecommerce systems and user experiences to maximize conversion rates and loyalty.
  • Evaluate and improve operations based on agreed KPIs and revenue targets.
  • Develop a distribution strategy to cost-effective deliver products and services to key markets.
  • Build and execute a sales strategy that will leverage direct sales team to deliver revenue and margin goals.
  • P&L Responsibility and developing a financial plan and budget while accounting for potential market variances.

Knowledge & Experience required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Chemistry, Agriculture, Business Administration, or relevant field. MBA preferred.
  • At least 10+ years of progressive sales and operations leadership experience. Demonstrated success as a functional go-to-market executive with revenue scale of at least $5M for a leading Instrumentation or Diagnostics company with a sales strategy that leverages direct multi-channel sales.
  • Knowledge or experience with Agriculture, hydroponics or the sales of instrumentation preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Outstanding leadership skills and business acumen required.
  • Expertise in omni-channel business management and delivery.
  • Previous experience in managing multi-region businesses and teams.
  • Background in similar instrumentation technologies preferred but previous successful experience in similar technical, high touch industries will be considered.
  • Demonstrable technical understanding of the full suite of business skills in the areas outlined above.
  • Willingness to travel.
